This was originally 1 post going into the quirks of SMS, but we’ve split it in 2 because it became unwieldy. On bytes, character encodings and unicode, with a slight detour via UTF for good measure:

P.S. we’ve mostly been working on some updates to how we present ourselves recently as part of growing sustainably this year (as mentioned in the 2020 post), but other developments are in the pipeline as well!

This was originally one long post, but it became unwieldy so we’re splitting it in 2, just like an SMS.

As someone who years ago had a very limited monthly SMS allowance, I was always keeping an eye on how many SMSs my message would take up, and editing out words as needed. Seems like a different age now…
